Creating a PDF

PDF

For instructions in creating a PDF from Adobe CC or Microsoft Office applications, choose your software suite below:

For all other software and versions not listed above, there are several options:

  1. Your software may have an option to export or save as a PDF. Consult the documentation or online help.
  2. Try Adobe's free conversion utility: https://www.adobe.com/ca/acrobat/online/word-to-pdf.html
  3. We may be able to work with your source files.
  4. Still stuck? Feel free to contact us, we almost always have a solution.

Providing a print-ready file will save time and money. A professional print- quality file includes:

  • Crop marks
  • Bleeds – 1/16 inch (0.625") beyond the borders
  • Colours – Spot or CMYK (depending on the print method)
  • Correct Sizing
  • Photo resolution at 300 dpi (higher may be ok, lower than 150 will likely be noticeable in print when viewed closely)
  • Fonts that are either embedded or outlined

While we can work with files from many design applications it is best to provide us with a print quality PDF. A PDF is the preferred format because it packages all the components of your file including fonts, color information and other important settings while still allowing us the flexibility to make modifications to the file and prep it for printing.
